A note from one of our Gold Award Holders

“I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of our group to all the award leaders and helpers for their energy, enthusiasm and commitment.

I honestly can’t quite believe that we were out last night celebrating the completion of our gold awards. For someone who had never gone camping in their life before attempting bronze, couldn’t correctly differentiate between a bullock and a bull at the tender age of 14, and still can’t safely cross a river it felt like an achievement. Look at it this way if i can do it anyone can!… Thanks for everything you have done you’re all fab. I passed my black belt in JKA karate at easter which is a something i would never have done if i hadn’t had to do a sport for the Award. At primary i came last in the egg and spoon race, tripped up in the skipping race, thew the welly in the wrong direction in the welly boot thow and could never hold my head straight enough to keep the bean bag in place- lets face it all in all i was pretty useless. At last i seem to have found a sport at which i can truthfully say i aint great but i’m not utterly useless either- so ta!

The award has given the whole group (not just me!) a fantastic opportunity that i personally hope more and more people will take up.

Thanks again for everything,

Kim”
